When Should You Book Your Wedding DJ? | Fraser Valley

Short answer: nine to twelve months before your date. Sooner if you are getting married between June and September.

Longer answer below, because the reason matters more than the number.

What actually happens with summer dates

June through September are the months that fill first, and they do not fill evenly. Saturdays in that window go long before the Fridays and Sundays around them. If your date is a Saturday in July, you are competing with every other couple who picked a Saturday in July.

My best-organised couples tend to book about a year out. Nine months is comfortable. Under six months for a peak Saturday and you are working with whoever happens to be left.

Where a DJ sits in your booking order

Venue first — everything else keys off the date and the space. Photographer and DJ usually come next, because both are one-per-day vendors. There is no version of this where someone doubles up.

Caterers can often flex. A DJ on your date either is available or is not.

What holds the date

A 30% deposit. Not a phone call, not an email saying you are pretty sure. Until the deposit lands, the date stays open, and I have had couples lose a date to someone who moved faster on exactly the same weekend.

That is not a sales line. It is just how a one-person-per-day business works.

If your date is soon

Ask anyway. Dates open up, plans move, and off-peak months have far more room than people assume. October through April is a genuinely different picture from July.

What booking early actually buys you

More than the date. It buys the planning runway — the timeline conversation, your music list, the ceremony details. The couples who book early are the ones whose receptions run like they were planned, because they were.
